Introduction
The Jammu and Kashmir Medicinal Plants Introduction Centre-JKMPIC, is a pioneer institution to start cultivation of important indigenous medicinal plants and introduce many from other parts of the world. A preliminary study on cultivation of medicinal plants in Jammu and Kashmir was from this institution. Subsequently lot of work on cultivation and improvement was done on selected plants by different scientists and a consolidated account on cultivation and utilization of these plants was published (Sheikh GULZAR, 2002 & 2007).
To boost the cultivation of medicinal plants in Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Medicinal Plants Introduction Centre has developed several nurseries in the area, which are attracting elders, who are still using the medicinal plants for treatment of various ailments.
The Jammu and Kashmir Medicinal Plants Introduction Centre has established seven nurseries of Medicinal plants in Kashmir and Jammu regions to cultivate the medicinal plant saplings of high-value and low-volume and also to boost the cultivation of plants which are at the verge of extinction.
