The first minor breakthrough arrived with the help of a medical conference. An asthma patient had noticed significant improvement of her health which appeared to be linked with the Schrijver System. Her doctor wrote a paper on the case which was presented at the medical conference for Asthma diseases in 1979 in London. It was in this paper, that the term ‘Schrijver System’ was first coined and Henk Schrijver accepted the name for what was going to grow into a healthy company.
Some years followed in which Henk Schrijver fought to get the system patented. The first houses were treated with the Schrijver Holland damp proofing method from 1984 onwards. It was only after numerous visits to various leading scientists in the country that he found support and believe for his invention from them. In 1983 he could start testing it at the independent Dutch research organization TNO which gave him the scientific proof that he could base the patent on, which was finally granted in 1988.In the same year Henk Schrijver won the prize for best invention of the year and appeared on national television for the award ceremony. This was the moment from where the company was able to grow steadily and branches opened in Belgium, the UK and Spain successively.
