Introduction
Welcome to "Curtain Up". We are a drama company based in Croydon, in South London. We teach speech & drama to children, young adults and adults. We run weekend and after-school classes for groups and individuals for all ages 5- 18 years, at all levels. During our drama classes, "Curtain Up" prepares students for a LAMDA examination in Acting and/or Speaking Verse & Prose. Our classes involve a wide range of speech and drama activities, such as acting games, improvisation, working with published texts, breathing exercises, physical games, learning lines and sight reading. The Croydon Festival of Music & Drama takes place in April and May every year and "Curtain Up" enters students into the drama component of the festival. The goal is to help students to gain skills in three main areas:
Technique - Using the voice and body to communicate meaning
Interpretation - Engaging emotionally and intellectually with words
Knowledge of - Acting theory and background of acting principles
