Director and Founder, Advice Manufacturing
Chartered Engineer, Technical Author and Engineering Leader
Mark has over 16 years’ experience in hands-on engineering design, manufacturing management and leadership. He has worked in a broad range of roles, across various manufacturing industry sectors. These include instrumentation and measurement, automation and process engineering, the automotive and pharmaceutical supply chains, as well as various contract engineering positions. He currently leads a multi-disciplined engineering group within a core Government department, frequently interacting with small manufacturers in the supply base.
His roles have included mechanical engineering design, CAD, production engineering and machine-shop management. He’s also had responsibility for lean manufacturing implementation, operations management, technical project management, as well as engineering team and group leadership. All his industry-based positions have been in small and medium sized businesses, where he has a proven track record of driving improvements in product development processes, production practices and manufacturing facilities. He has consistently delivered tangible business benefits.
He has a passion for profitable design and manufacturing excellence, particularly with small manufacturing businesses, where he believes ordinary people can make a massive difference, if given a little help.
Mark is committed to raising professionalism and the profile of engineering, through mentoring and coaching others’, as well as supporting engineers’ career development and professional registration.
In addition to this, Mark has written a range of eBooks covering product development, CAD engineering, cost reduction and lean manufacturing topics – all tailored to small manufacturing businesses. He is also the founder of the popular website Advice Manufacturing.
Mark is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), professionally registered with the Engineering Council UK. He is also a Chartered Manager (CMgr), registered with the Chartered Management Institute, highlighting his professional commitment to effective, hands-on leadership and management, demonstrated through concrete business benefits. He is a full member of 3 professional engineering institutions – The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (MIMechE), the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET) and the Institution of Engineering Designers (MIED).
He holds a BSc(Hons) in Engineering Product Design and an MSc in Engineering Design and Management. He also holds a Diploma in Leadership and Management.
