Ni, Cr and Mo all increase the harden ability of steel. In general, Ni is the most expensive per unit of increased harden ability, but is warranted when toughness is a primary consideration. Chromium brings resistance to corrosion and oxidation, high temperature strength and abrasion resistance.

Molybdenum helps to maintain a specified harden ability. It also increases high temperature tensile and creep strengths. These grades are generally heat treated to specified properties.

Alloy (Nitronic) 60 wires are anti-galling stainless steel that have excellent wear resistance. This alloy has uniform corrosion resistance and provides great high-temperature oxidation resistance as well. Due to its outstanding galling resistance at both ambient and elevated temperatures, Alloy 60 is used in applications such as bridge pins, valve stems, roller bearings and bushings, and pump wear rings and lobes. It performs well in nominally inert atmospheres where metal to metal wear is an issue.

Alloy 42 wire is a 41% nickel-iron controlled expansion alloy which has been used in a wide variety of glass-to-metal sealing applications.

21Cr-6Ni-9Mn wire is a high manganese nitrogen strengthened, austenitic stainless steel that combines high strength in the annealed condition, excellent resistance to oxidation at high temperatures, good resistance to lead oxide and a high level of corrosion resistance at ambient temperatures. The alloy can be fabricated and formed much the same as Type 304 and 316, and is readily weld able. It remains nonmagnetic after severe cold work.
21Cr-6Ni-9Mn has been used for chemical process and pollution-control equipment, steam and autoclave applications, and various aircraft engine components, as well as numerous other applications.

Alloy A-286 wire is designed for applications requiring high strength and good corrosion resistance at temperatures up to 1300ÌŠF (704ÌŠC). This alloy offers high ductility in notched sections. In fact, the notched rupture strength of alloy A-286 is superior to many other commercial alloys with comparable high temperature properties. An advantage of this alloy is that it can be precipitation hardened and strengthened by heat treatments. This makes possible a high degree of uniformity in developing maximum strength, which can be duplicated application after application.

Alloy 350 wires are chromium-nickel-molybdenum stainless steel which can be hardened by martens tic transformation and/or precipitation hardening. It has been used for gas turbine compressor components such as blades, discs, rotors, shafts, and similar parts where high strength was required at room and intermediate temperatures. Depending upon the heat treatment, alloy 350 may have an austenitic structure for best formability, or a marten’s tic structure with strengths comparable to those of martens tic steels. The alloy normally contains about 5 to 10% delta ferrite. The corrosion resistance of alloy 350 approaches that of the chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel
