Introduction
We offer tours to our fantastic palaeontological dig site from the five million year period. Animals such as Mammoths and other large mammals inhabited this area five million years ago when the area was more subtropical and boasted large forested areas and probably was a large estuarine environment. Bones of animals were deposited in this estuarine area after being washed down by the Palaeo-Berg River where they were submerged in mud and silt and fossilized. The fossils were discovered when mining took place in the area to recover large deposits of phosphate.
This is a fascinating venue to discover and well worth a visit! Our Coffee Shop provides delicious light meals .... coffee and a slice of our mouth-watering carrot cake or Best-in-the-West Lemon Meringue pie will complete a wonderful and informative visit to a very special place.
