Predominantly a Buddhist country with Vajrayana Buddhism being state religion, Hinduism cling to be the second largest religion in Bhutan mostly followed by the Nepali speaking Bhutanese in the south. Few are permitted access into the land of the living dragon that deliberately preserves its unique way of life. Come with us to explore Dzongs, monastic fortresses that are intrinsic to Bhutanese Buddhism, tropical forests with rare birds, and entire valleys shrouded in religious legends. Day to Day Itinerary
Day 01 Arrive Paro [2250m / 7382ft]
Flight to Paro From Kathmandu where the Himalaya Mountains offering spectacular views of the awesome peaks. After an arrival, transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon visit to Paro Dzong, built in 1646, and now houses government offices and religious institutions of Paro valley. Visit Kichu Lhakhang, the oldest temple in the country. From there we move to the Drugyal Dzong (Bhutan Victory Fort) built in 1646 to commemorate Bhutan's victory over Tibetan invaders during 1600s. In the evening, stroll through the Paro market and town. Overnight in Paro.
Day 02 Paro-Thimphu [2320m/7610 ft]: 1 hr/54 km
Early Morning after breakfast hike to Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) Monastery, Bhutan's most famous monastery situated at 3180 meters. Guru Rinpoche (spiritual master) is said to have flown on the back of a tigress from Singye Dzong in Lhuentse to meditate in a cave where Taktsang Monastery now stands. The monastery is perched on the edge of a steep cliff, about 900 meters above Paro Valley. After exploring the monastery, hike down to the Paro valley and drive to Thimphu in the evening, the capital city of Bhutan. Overnight in Thimphu.
Day 03 Thimphu-Punakha [1250m/4000 ft]: 76 km/ 3 hrs
After breakfast, visit the King's Memorial Chorten, the radio tower (for a great view of Thimphu Valley and Thimphu Dzong), and the zoo, which contains the national animal of Bhutan, the takin. From there, visit nunnery temple, National Library which have preserved an ancient manuscripts of bhutan, and School of Arts and Crafts ancient paintings of Bhutan. Drive to Punakha after traversing through rice field and along the bank of Punakha River. Visit Punakha Dzong, which is stunningly situated in between the male and female rivers like an anchored ship. Overnight in Punakha.
Day 04 Punakha-Paro [2250m / 7382ft]: 130km/4 hours
Day 04 drive back to Paro. On the way, visit Chimi Lhakhang, which is a fertility temple dedicated to Divine Madman, visit National Institute of Traditional Medicine and Majestic Tashichhodzong. Overnight in Paro.
Day 05 Depart from Paro
Drive to airport for departure.
