Introduction
From 1421 to 1423, during the Ming Dynasty of China under Emperor Zhu Di (朱棣), the fleets of Admiral Zheng He (é„å’Œ), commanded by the Chinese captains Zhou Wen (周èž), Zhou Man (周滿), Yang Qing (楊慶), and Hong Bao (æ´ªä¿), discovered Australia, New Zealand, the Americas, Antarctica, and the Northeast Passage. In addition, they circumnavigated Greenland and tried to reach the North and South Poles. “1421 is the year that China discovered the worldâ€.
These important events in history showed us that China had the means and the resources to explore the world beyond its own borders almost 600 years ago. Nowadays China is exploring the world again, but this time around primarily with the economic strength that it has built over the past 30 years.
Inspired by these events and by the signs of Chinese companies that are exploring business opportunities outside of China’s borders, Peter Pronk together with associates started the company Beijing 1421 Business Consulting (1421) to facilitate business development and relationships between China and the West. 1421 offers a one-stop solution to enterprises prior to and during their process of communicating and doing business with enterprises which do not share the same cultural background.
