Introduction
The Restaurant
Wink has consistently been ranked in Austin as one of the best fine dining venues in town. Year after year our cuisine is praised by critics far and wide for our clarity of purpose and consistency of service and quality. But what does this mean for you, the "eater?"
Accessible and easy fine dining
From the moment you walk through our door, we try to welcome you to a cordial and warm environment where you are going to have a great, and hopefully memorable meal. We strive to provide the absolute best in fine dining in a format where you feel comfortable and open to a new dining experience and new tastes. Although our staff is extremely knowledgeable about the food we prepare and the wines we serve, we aren't stuffy or uptight about it! We want our guests to feel free to ask questions and try new things. There's never a silly question or request at Wink. We're here to introduce you to new things and create a great dining experience.
A great table!
The Wink Restaurant space is an intimate, un-pretentious "white-tablecloth" parlor where we can seat small or large parties. Because we are hands-on with personal attention as our goal, we often are booked in advance and reservations are strongly recommended. For parties larger than four people, reservations are often a necessity if you don't want a long wait time. For the special event dinner like an anniversary, a birthday, or a graduation, we are known for our special personalized touch to recognize your occasion, so make sure to let us know what you are celebrating when you make your reservation.
Our Menus
Our menu is updated daily based on what is fresh and beautiful from our local and national farms and purveyors. Arranged according to size, from smaller plates to larger entree portions, our menu is designed to encourage multiple courses and a dining tour of many different flavors. We also feature a daily Chef's Tasting Menu designed to tour the best of the best from each day's creations. The tasting menu can be paired with wines for the ultimate palate-pleasing adventure.
The Wine Bar
We opened our Wink Wine Bar as a great, energy-filled place to get a really good glass of wine and to experience all that Wink has to offer with last-minute convenience. Seating is "first come - first serve" for bar patrons and people who are waiting to be seated in the Wink Restaurant next door. The Wine Bar features a more casual environment and service than our regular dining room. It is a great place for a quick glass of wine or a whole evening.
Wine is our passion!
Every day, our sommeliers greet wine purveyors to help us comprise our very special "Winklist." Our regular patrons know that we take the wine business seriously and we constantly strive to bring the best, tastiest, most unique, and challenging selections we can find to enrich our client's taste experience. You can expect a full range of selections in reds, whites, off-beat finds, and sparkling delights. Our menu is arranged by size of the pour so you can arrange the kind of tasting you want for the evening.
Plates of all sizes
YES, you can eat at the Wine Bar! To go with our extensive winelist, we prepare a special Bar Menu of light pub bites. You can also order anything from our restaurant menu and we can bring it over to the bar, where service is more laid-back and lively. It's a more casual way to have the Wink culinary experience.
Culinary Philosophy
Wink Restaurant stresses the innovative use of the freshest ingredients. Seafood is flown in daily from both the east and west coasts, local farmers supply produce, herbs, and cheeses, and small local purveyors are constantly on the lookout for fresh, new product.
Respect for these ingredients is the cornerstone of the Wink culinary philosophy. The cook's mandate is to draw out, compliment, and enhance the natural flavors, not to over-manipulate and disguise the natural beauty of the product. The goal is achieved by using sauces based on fresh vegetable purees and essences, infused oils, and light stock emulsifications.
This philosophy carries through to the dessert menu. Each plate is designed to compliment specific ingredient choices, from fresh local chevre to unique Venezuelan chocolate with a heavy emphasis on the freshest seasonal produce.
Wine Philosophy
Wink's staff believes that wines are an integral part of the dining experience. To keep the staff and guests enthusiastic about the wine program, the wine list under goes minor additions and deletions 2 to 3 times each week. The dynamic nature of the list makes it possible to bring in wines from small vintners where production is limited, putting them on the list when they are available and dropping them off when the supply is exhausted.
The wine list itself is relatively compact with 60 to 70 selections by the bottle and roughly 50 selections by the glass. There is an emphasis on "food friendly" wines such as sauvignon blanc, reisling, champagne, gigondas, syrah, grenache, and pinot noir. The service staff is well versed in the nuances of the wine list and is happy to make suggestions for wine and food pairings to make your dining experience complete.
