Introduction
The Plough Inn is situated in the village of West Hanney, two miles north of Wantage in South Oxfordshire. It has only been a pub for 180 years although the building dates back to around 1525 when Henry V111 built the nearby Dower House for one of his many mistresses, and four cottages for the workers.
Trevor and Ann Cooper have been at the the pub for almost nine years and have created a friendly and informal village inn atmosphere with roaring log fires in winter, roast chestnuts, mulled wine and their own damson gin. Barbecues are also hosted in the pretty walled garden above the covered patio in summer.
In the kitchen they craft classic home cooked fayre with substance and style supported by a network of respected local suppliers, while fresh fish is bought through the British Skippers Scheme from Devon and Cornwall. The main menu is seaonal, complimented by daily changes to the specials, a snacks and sandwich board and a great value set winter menu.
The Plough's beer awards and Cask Marque accreditation reflect a passion for real ale and ensure that the well kept cellar stocks Sharps Doombar as the house beer and a selection of great local beers. The wine selection offers quality old and new world with prices to suit everyone.
