Introduction
The Akshaya Patra Foundation is one of the oldest Indian mid-day meal non-profit organisations. It was established in 2000 with the vision, “No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger.’ It is headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka with operations across India. Akshaya Patra implements the Mid-Day Meal Programme in a public-private partnership model i.e. in association with Government of India, various State Governments, and support from philanthropic corporates and donors. Currently, this charity for children provides daily schools meals to 1,765,597 children across 45 locations in 12 states.
The mid-day meal is a strong determinant for children from challenging backgrounds to attend school. Akshaya Patra has set itself the mission to provide nutritious meals to five million children by 2025. Alongside providing mid-day meals, this non-profit organisation has also introduced child-centric initiatives for overall development of children. The initiatives include: Anganwadi feeding, scholarship, talent development, and model schools.
