Introduction
Teamplay Trading specializes in the sourcing, supply, marketing and distribution of sports equipment and apparel to the South African market.
With 21 years of experience under his belt, owner Daryl Scott, continually pushes boundaries in terms of product, development and concept in the industry.
He created the Wasp brand, in 1994 and over a period of 10 years secured the endorsements of rugby playing legends Wayne Fyvie, Gary Teichmann, Mark Andrews, Percy Montgomery, Selborne Boome, Hottie Louw, Butch James, Joe van Niekerk, Ollie le Roux, Brent Russell and Victor Matfield to wear the Wasp shoulderpads, headgear and gloves. Other sporting greats such as Karen Roberts, who captained the South African hockey team used Wasp hockey sticks and Errol Stewart the cricket equipment. The Wonderball was endorsed by cricketing legend, Alan Donald.
With his eye always on the new and innovative, Daryl identified the potential of the ‘extreme market’ and launched the Urban Reptile scooter and New Earth and Hothouse skateboard ranges into South Africa in 1999. In 2004, Mr Price bought the business and the Wasp brand … a stepping stone towards realizing what is today, Mr Price Sports.
In 2006,Daryl left Mr Price and started Teamplay trading.
Teamplay Trading was involved in the Football World Cup 2010, supplying the Bafana Bafana supporter shirt, the Football Friday initiative to schools and corporates, as well as other licensed Bafana product tor retail.
Having developed product for local retail giants - Wasp, Maxed, Promaster for Mr Price Sports, Invader for Pick n Pay and Pro Action for Edgars, in the past, Daryl’s focus now is on the sourcing, importing and distributing of cutting edge sports equipment and apparel, and the development and supply of sports products, to the South African market.
In addition, passionate about creating a truly African and South African sports brand, at the beginning of 2012, Teamplay was given the Shosholoza license for sports equipment with the brief to do just that!
“The success of this important initiative can only be realized with the support of ALL South Africans who share in the vision of creating something that is African, South African, and a brand that we can all be proud of,†says Scott.
In addition, Teamplay has secured the rights to Plain Lazy, Hunter MMA, Top Gear ‘The Stig’ scooters and skateboards as well as relaunch its own New Earth skateboard range.
It is Teamplays objective to stimulate local industry and the Plain Lazy and Hunter MMA clothing ranges will be locally manufactured. Teamplay also believes in giving back to the community and as such, has partnered with The Domino Foundation, a Non-Profit Organisation, in order to promote sport in underprivilaged areas.
