Introduction
Private step by step computer training in the comfort of your own home.
Being tutored in your own home can be far more effective and convenient than attending evening classes. There is no hassle of having to travel, no fear of asking an embaressing question in front of a group, and you will receive 100% of my attention throughout the entire session.
All computer lessons will be carried out by me, James, in your home on your own computer. I will explain everything to you in plain English with no Jargon, and will guide you in a friendly, relaxed and informal manner. If you are a nervous beginner that has never switched on a PC, or you are an intermediate user looking to expand your skills, I will work with you, patiently, step by step at your own pace so you can acquire all of the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities needed to operate your computer confidently and proficiently. I will provide easy to follow notes as we go along for you to refer to and free 24/7 email and telephone support for clients with brief queries that require a short answer.
How does it work and what are the costs?
I will assess where your knowledge stands at that time over the phone .We can then arrange a one-off session to get you started, and if you are happy with my service, then you can book more lessons as and when you need them. There is no minimum or maximum number of lessons. My rates are just £20-25 per hour depending on your location. This includes travel expenses and there are no hidden fees. The areas I cover are within a 20 mile radius of Chesterfield.
Does it matter what kind of computer I have?
No, I can teach you on any machine , laptop or desktop PC that is running Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8
What I can teach you
How to: turn on, restart and shut down your machine correctly. Send and receive emails. Store names and addresses. Set up accounts. Diverting unwanted emails and spam. Send letters, links to websites or photos with emails. Write letters. Use web browsers. Using search engines to look up information. Do online shopping (ebay, Amazon, supermarket home delivery and travel reservations) Online banking. Create, organise, move and delete folders. Organise photos, music and video files. How to download music, photos and film. Use social media (facebook, twitter, dating sites, instagram, youtube, talk to friends and family all over the world for free on Skype) Printing and scanning. How to build a website. How to burn CDs and DVDs how to transfer data onto external harddrives and usb sticks. How to install, update and uninstall software. Setting up and playing games.
Can I fix or upgrade computers?
Yes, I have been building and upgrading systems for fifteen years and I can carry out most types of repairs and upgrades. If your computer is running slow, the first step would be to carry out a general health check for viruses, download and install the latest updates and perform a 'clean up' to free up space available on your harddrive. If your computer is still 'crawling' after this stage, in most cases, the only option left is to wipe the harddrive clean and reinstall and update (if needed) your computer's operating system (i.e, Windows XP, Vista, 7) All of your important files can be transferred onto an external storage device so they will not be lost.
Upgrading the hardware on your computer can also significantly increase the performance of your machine. A RAM memory upgrade is an inexpensive and effective way to speed up your computer.
I can replace faulty hardware components like motherboards, cpu's, cooling fans, harddrives etc which is a far cheaper alternative than buying a new machine .
I can also help you set up an internet connection and work with your service provider to optimise it for the best possible speeds.
