IFIS produces FSTA®, also known as FSTA® - Food Science and Technology Abstracts, an extensive and specialist food science database of carefully selected content, which is collated, summarised, and indexed for efficient searching. The database is used by researchers, industry practitioners, and students around the world to keep up-to-date with new findings in their fields.
To provide high quality information to the global food community, IFIS works with EBSCO, IHS, Proquest, STN, Thomson Reuters, and Wolters Kluwer.
As a not-for-profit charitable organisation, IFIS is committed to advancing the discovery of food and health information, offering access to researchers in developing countries through the Research4Life programmes, HINARI and AGORA.

Meet Our Team (4)

Hilary Spencer
Head of Editorial and Production
Hilary holds a degree in Biological Sciences (Genetics and Microbiology) from the University of Leicester. She has worked on FSTA® in various guises during her career at IFIS, including ten years as Production Manager, and now heads up the Editorial and Production Department. Prior to this, Hilary worked as a Clinical Geneticist in the NHS.

Maria Severino
Head of Finance, HR, and Admin
Maria has been with IFIS since 2001, initially as Accountant and more recently as Head of Finance, HR, and Admin, where her duties cover all aspects of financial control and management. A full member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (FMAAT), Maria has previously worked for CSL, Avco Trust, Guardian Royal Exchange, and BT in various financial roles.

René Schölzel
Head of Sales and Marketing
René is responsible for sales, marketing, and business development. He joined IFIS in 2011 after five years with Emerald Group Publishing, where he held senior positions, ultimately as Head of Sales Operations. He has an MA in Management from Bradford University School of Management and is currently studying part-time towards an Executive MBA at Henley Business School. René is a German national and has lived in the UK since 2003.

Richard Hollingsworth
Managing Director
Richard joined IFIS in 2010 as an experienced professional in the information industry, with a background in the successful development and management of international organisations. Richard has previously been Chief Development Officer of Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, and Vice President Sales & Marketing, EMEA at CSA (Cambridge Scientific Abstracts). Earlier in his career, he worked for ProQuest as Director of Sales, Asia Pacific. He has lived and worked in Malaysia and Japan.
