Introduction
Bleeding Heart Restaurant offers modern French food, ‘impeccable service’, an award-winning ‘encyclopaedic’ wine list and above all a uniquely welcoming ambience in a wonderfully historic setting.
The warm, wood-panelled Restaurant is an ideal venue for both an important business lunch (customers cross the City for its famed Cheeseboard) and for a romantic ‘diner a deux’ – it was voted by ‘The Times’ as the City's most romantic restaurant.
Our busy buzzy Bistro with its striking 19th Century French wine posters and eccentric Vineyard Sculpture combines a warm ambience and cheerful yet professional service with traditional French dishes ranging from Coq au Vin and Steak Frites to Lapin à la moutarde and Navarin of Organic Lamb, plus a great-value list of 450 wines by the bottle and more than a dozen by the glass. From Spring to Autumn the Bistro has a secluded court yard terrace sitting more than 30.
Parties of up to 8 for lunch and up to 12 for dinner may order from our A La Carte menu. For tables of more than 12 we would suggest our £24.50 Prix Fixe Menu, which offers you four starters, four main courses and three desserts to choose from, plus complimentary coffee.
The Tavern Bar on the corner of Bleeding Heart yard has had a history of conviviality stretching back to 1746, when its slogan was ‘drunk for a penny and dead drunk for two pence’.
That spirit of good cheer continues today with real ale from Adnams, an extensive range of wines by the glass and a great–value menu ranging from a Roast Suckling Pig on the spit downstairs, to a Grilled Lamb–Burger from Bleeding Heart's own organic lambs.
The Tavern is open for breakfast, with freshly squeezed orange juice, home–baked croissants and warm baguettes from Bleeding Heart's own bakery and very generous Full English. The Tavern is licensed from 7am so, yes, you can have a glass of Champagne with your Scrambled Eggs and Smoked Salmon.
The Magical Medieval Crypt in Ely Place, adjoining Bleeding Heart Yard, is the perfect venue for a special Private Event for 50 to 120 guests – be it a Wedding Reception or a City Banquet.
With its History of Celebration and Celebration of History, the 600 year–old Crypt in Ely Place has been hosting celebrity parties ever since King Henry V111 held his three day wedding feast there in 1531. Today The Crypt offers the same superb food, wine and service as the legendary Bleeding Heart Restaurant.
