Meet Our Team (1)
Erik Feig
FOUNDER and CEO
Feig began his career as an independent producer, packaging and producing the I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER movie series. He joined Summit Entertainment in 2001, becoming a partner a few years later, and helped it grow from the preeminent foreign sales company to a burgeoning financing and production company, and ultimately into one of the most successful independent studios in Hollywood. Selected credits from Feig’s Summit tenure include THE HURT LOCKER — which won the Academy Award for Best Picture; all five films in the STEP UP dance franchise, which grossed $651 million worldwide off an aggregate budget of just over $100 million; and many other films including MR. & MRS. SMITH, the RED film series, SOURCE CODE, SINISTER, KNOWING, 50/50, ONCE, and LETTERS TO JULIET.
Throughout his career, Feig has had a special focus and affinity for the youth market and was responsible for bringing the TWILIGHT book series to screen. Feig developed and actively managed every aspect of all five films in THE TWILIGHT SAGA that ultimately grossed $3.3 billion worldwide (off a combined budget of $385 million) and became a lasting cultural phenomenon.
Five years after Summit became a fully-fledged movie studio, Lionsgate Entertainment purchased it and Feig was named President of Production for the combined Motion Picture Group (and ultimately Co-President of the entire Motion Picture Group). With Lionsgate, Feig integrated the two film labels and successfully originated, supervised and produced multiple films including THE HUNGER GAMES series from CATCHING FIRE on ($2.2 billion worldwide gross), the DIVERGENT series ($765 million worldwide gross), NOW YOU SEE ME series ($687 million worldwide gross), SICARIO, HACKSAW RIDGE, THE IMPOSSIBLE, NERVE, THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER, WARM BODIES, POWER RANGERS, WONDER (grossing over $300 million worldwide, off a $24 million budget). Upcoming movies made under Feig include the Doug Liman-directed CHAOS WALKING (starring Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley), Sam Raimi-directed THE KINGKILLER CHRONICLE with Lin-Manuel Miranda, A SIMPLE FAVOR, THE SPY WHO DUMPED ME, and UNCLE DREW. Feig was also responsible for sourcing and supervising every aspect of development and production on Damien Chazelle’s LA LA LAND, which grossed $450 million worldwide, off a budget of $34 million, and in 2016 received a record-tying 14 Academy Award nominations, winning six. That year, Lionsgate had the most Oscar nominations of any studio, with 26.
Feig has been a featured speaker at multiple panels and venues, including the Oxford Union, has appeared on numerous “most influential” lists, and been honored by multiple organizations. He is a founding board member of LA's Promise, a nonprofit helping young people and families in Los Angeles' most underserved neighborhoods; a founding board member of The Systemic Change Project, which promotes gender balance in the entertainment industry; a board member of the Columbia University School of the Arts; a board member of City Year LA, helping LA’s neediest schools and communities; a board member of Represent.US, a group focussed on eradicating corruption in voting practices; and an Ambassador for the ReFrame Project, devoted to diversity and gender balance in the entertainment industry.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Columbia University in 1992 and lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children.
