In the year 1982, Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) along with Indian Railways introduced India’s first luxury tourist train - Palace on Wheels.The train, a luxury presentation by RTDC, was introduced to promote tourism in Rajasthan, which is greatly associated with royalty and vigor. Just after a few years of its inception, the luxurious Palace on Wheels got PATA Gold Award and also caught the attention of major world media organizations including MTV, BBC, MDR of Germany, National Geographic and several others. During its 7 nights and 8 days journey, Palace on Wheels chugs through some of the precisely chosen locales of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh including Delhi, Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bharatpur and Agra.

The train runs on tracks from September to April every year as this is the best time to explore the otherwise blazing terrain of Rajasthan.
