Southside Market & BBQ

Established in 1882, Southside Market & BBQ is the oldest barbeque joint in Texas. In fact, Southside's been a part of this country longer even than the Statue of Liberty. As the story is told, a man by the name of William J. Moon slaughtered beef and pork and sold it house to house from the back of a wagon back in 1882. This practice lasted until 1886 when the Moons set up a location in town on Central Street. The first Southside Market was born. Since that time, Southside Market has been managed by three generations of the Bracewell family, and it still sells the Original Elgin Sausage, which is made today just as it was in 1882. All beef, smoked slowly over Texas post oak wook. Because Southside is also a sausage production plant, all of their products are made fresh everyday with fresh ingredients. Southside Market & BBQ sells approximately 1,500,000 lbs. of Elgin Sausage every year. In addition, Southside has perfected the beef brisket (smoked 14 hours), a number of other TX style favorties and a line of signature sauces and seasonings. Southside products can be found in many retail grocery stores and Southside ships their products anywhere in the contiguous United States.
