Introduction
Buzzcloth is a reusable, biodegradable food wrap - made from hemp and beeswax - that replaces foil and plastic in your kitchen and lunchbox. Made from all natural materials, Buzzcloth seals around your food with the warm of your hands. Wash in cold water, dry and reuse. At the end of its life, Buzzcloth can be discarded on your compost heap. It is a lovely tactile product, that scrunches with use, and smells heavenly. Kids love it, and it makes a great novel gift. Once you've tried one, you'll be smitten!
Buzzcloth came about after a fruitless search for a natural alternative to plastic to wrap up my children's sandwiches for school. I had already come across fabric sandwich bags but they were always the wrong size, and I just couldn't be bothered to wash and dry them. I used fabric napkins for a while in my desperation, but also lost the will to live everytime I was faced with a mountain of them on wash day. I started searching online for a solution, and came across the idea of waxed cloth. This tickled my fancy, and after a bit of experimentation, then a lot of experimentation, Buzzcloth was born.
Buzzcloth is great because it is made from totally natural products - beeswax, hemp/cotton cloth, and other plant extracts. Together they make up a fabulous cling cloth which smells heavenly, and scrunches in a delightful way around your food. Buzzcloth can be used to wrap anything that is not raw meat, or hot. We use ours for sandwiches, bread, fruit pieces, snacks, nuts, half vegetables. We also use it to cover bowls containing leftovers, raw meat and rising dough.
We have also used it more creatively to open stubborn bottletops, replace a cork on a bottle of wine, stop a chair from sliding. It can be used as a cup or water bowl for dogs on picnics, or as a make-do container for snacks whilst camping.
Our kids use them everyday, wrapping up all sorts of things in their lunchbox. They are also great for stopping fruit from bruising in school bags.
Buzzcloth is washed in cold water with mild soap, and dries naturally. Depending on how often you use it, and how carefully you wash it, Buzzcloth can last from six months to a year. When it's time to retire your Buzzcloth, simply discard on the compost heap and order a new one. To receive a new Buzzcloth in the post is a delight, and you will never tire of the great joy you receive from each premier scrunch!
Buzzcloth comes in three sizes - small, medium and large.
